Areas of scientific interest and research

 Professor Aliyev is a leading specialist in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of head and neck diseases.

 His primary research and clinical practice focuse on diseases of the thyroid gland, larynx, pharynx, tongue, parotid and submandibular glands, skin, and other anatomical structures of the head and neck.

 Under his leadership, comprehensive programs for the prevention and early diagnosis of malignant tumors of the head and neck were developed.

 He participated in the development of a treatment protocol for modern thyroid cancer surgery within the framework of individualized recommendations aimed at establishing a unified global approach to the treatment of thyroid diseases.

 Owing to his organizational skills and leadership, international conferences on the diagnosis and treatment of malignant tumors are regularly held in Azerbaijan, featuring renowned specialists from Europe and the United States.

 Professor Aliyev played a key role in establishing a number of scientific and practical cooperation agreements between the National Oncology Center of Azerbaijan and leading oncology institutions in the United States, including MD Anderson Cancer Center, Weill Cornell University, and the University of Illinois, as well as leading centers in Europe.

 Under his leadership, Baku branch of Sechenov University has graduated more than 500 physicians, and currently, approximately 900 students are enrolled in the general medicine, residency, and pharmacology programs. A state-of-the-art simulation center has been established at the university, allowing students, residents, and physicians to develop clinical reasoning, teamwork, and emergency decision-making skills in an environment, which is very similar to real clinical practice. The simulation scenarios have shown to boost students' motivation and practical skills.

 

Honorary titles and awards

2023 — Medal "100th Anniversary of Heydar Aliyev (1923-2023)"

2024 — Awarded the Interstate Prize "Stars of the Commonwealth" — the highest humanitarian award of the CIS – in the category "For outstanding contribution and achievements in science and education."

2025 — Awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by order of the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation "For significant contribution to the improvement and development of healthcare and long-term fruitful work in providing highly qualified medical care."

 Professor Aliyev is the author of more than 60 scientific publications, one monograph, four textbooks and two methodological manuals.
