Abstract
This paper defines conceptual approaches to the development of a professional training system for the specialty of “algology” — a branch of medicine focused on the treatment of chronic pain syndrome as a socially significant pathology. Based on an analysis of existing international educational models (North American and European), priority vectors for training specialists in this field have been identified. A list of basic theoretical knowledge and clinical skills required of an algolist has been systematized, with an emphasis on the interdisciplinary nature of the competencies. In light of the existing organizational and methodological problems in training personnel in algology in the Russian Federation, directions for overcoming them have been proposed.
